Instructions for use - Sand pictures
"Help me do it myself!" – Maria Montessori
General information:
- Always work on a table and place your working hand on the template
- Only use the pick
→ Never remove adhesive film parts with fingernails or by bending
→ Otherwise, it will permanently damage the adhesive film - Provide wastebaskets and, if necessary, trays
- Practices fine motor skills, concentration & color understanding
Creating a sand picture:
- 1. Remove outlines (if present)
→ Sprinkle with black sand (contrast) - 2. Work on areas from the inside out
→ Sprinkle with colored sand
→ Tip: Place the template in a sand bowl and carefully sprinkle sand over it - 3. After each step:
→ Firmly tap the template from the back (excess sand) - 4. Don't forget the background
Creative effects:
- → Sprinkle different colored sand one after another with your fingers to create color gradients (salt sprinkling technique)
- → Tear off or carefully fold the protective film piece by piece
Further information:
- For each color:
→ One large bowl + possibly 1 spoon - No additional fixation necessary
→ Do not laminate! (does not stick to the sand)
→ Instead: Frame - protects against dust and scratches - For groups:
→ Work in stations, i.e., set up a standing workbench with wastebaskets for removing film parts and one for the bowls with colored sand (place these at a distance from each other, similar sand colors next to each other).
- Explain first, then craft:
→ Inform children first before they start, otherwise, they won't listen anymore
Safety instructions:
- Small parts that can be swallowed – choking hazard, not suitable for toddlers! Only craft under supervision
- Colored sand = non-toxic, no dangerous substances
- Use pick carefully – at your own risk
